About Seaside

The Town That Started It All

Seaside isn't just a beach town — it's the town that launched a movement. Founded in 1981 by Robert and Daryl Davis, Seaside was one of the first New Urbanist communities in the United States. Its design philosophy — walkable streets, front porches, mixed-use buildings, and human-scale architecture — has been replicated around the world.

The town gained worldwide fame as the filming location for “The Truman Show” (1998), and it's easy to see why the filmmakers chose it. The pastel-colored cottages, white picket fences, and perfectly manicured town green create a setting that feels almost too perfect to be real.

But Seaside is very real, and it's the beating heart of 30A. The town center buzzes with activity — from the famous Airstream food trucks to live music at the amphitheater to boutique shopping along the streets. After dark, a beach bonfire near Seaside is the perfect way to end the day.

Dining

Where to Eat in Seaside

Seaside's dining scene is the best on 30A — no question. Bud & Alley's has been the anchor since 1986, serving fresh Gulf seafood with legendary rooftop sunset views. Great Southern Cafe offers upscale Southern comfort food from the team behind the original Seaside dining scene.

But the real magic is Airstream Row — a collection of vintage Airstream trailers converted into food trucks. The Meltdown serves gourmet grilled cheese, Frost Bites has shaved ice, and Raw & Juicy offers cold-pressed juices and smoothies. It's casual, fun, and uniquely Seaside.

For a special dinner, Pescado Seafood Grill & Rooftop Barserves upscale coastal cuisine with Gulf views. And don't miss Dawson's Yogurt — the frozen yogurt spot that's been a Seaside tradition for decades.
